Mentors for Men - mentorship program for adult males
Financial literacy and entreprenuer classes are taught weekly
for one hour. Computer training is provided onsite of the Fathers for the Future Foundation by a certified computer technician.Outreach is conducted by the program director and his staff. Consultation ranges from identifiying mental illness, violence prevention, and workforce development.
Finally, Mentors for Men, is
an initiative that hopes to change the paradigm of one to one mentoring.By seeking professional male volunteers from
diverse backgrounds, it is our desire to broaden the pool of not only mentors,
but also protégés.Opening the age
requirement of a protégé is another factor in this strategy.Including adult males as protégés as well
mentors will encourage male bonding and goal setting at various stages of the
life cycle. The Mentors for Men Initiative includes participant screening, matching the participant with
the appropriate mentor, training the mentor, and case management. Mentors for Men also helps participants in the areas of adult tutoring, parenting consulation, and life-skills.
Fathers for the Future developed the C.E.O. (Community Entrepreneurship
Outreach) program to address the issues of the lack of employment opportunities. The C.E.O. program is
for young males between the ages of 13-18 and a sponsored project of the City of Chicago, the Chicago Bar Association's Lawyers Lend-A-Hand program, and Washinton Mutual Bank.
The desired outcome of the program is to encourage young males at the
earliest stages of their career choices to recognize their potential. And even if their career choice is a trade or
skilled labor; the young men can still become experts in their fields and
community leaders.Through the C.E.O. program, participants will receive a
holistic and comprehensive education indicative of the training and experiences
that a successful chief executive officer receives on his ladder to
achievement.The six month program has
four components including business management, arts and culture, community
activism, and life-skills.The
curriculum will also include leadership workshops, youth advisory board
meetings, corporate guest speakers, and social functions.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will have
been exposed to public speaking, volunteerism, financial literacy, and health
awareness.
Conferences
The Fathers for the Future hosts the annual,Lure of the Streets Conference.Lure of the Streets is a regional professional conference to encourage an open dialogue with the stakeholders vested in the success of economically self-sufficient young men between the ages of 18-30. This conference explores the obstacles to creating economic opportunities for young men through the lens of mentorship in the areas of violence prevention, role models, mental health, and workforce development.
Lure of the Streets Conference has two objectives:
1). to develop a national strategy for mitigating the financial barriers that hinder the success of young adult males.
2). to implement a platform based on national best practices that accounts for proposed solutions.
Fathers for the Future believes the only avenue to economic development is to build bridges to the opportunities. Therefore, the FFF has a focus on national and statewide legislation that affect laws which prohibit economic success such as labor laws, child custody laws, education, and entreprenuership.
