History

Established in 2005, the Fathers for the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The Fathers for the Future recognizes the potential of young men, and their demand within the family infrastructure. Educational and economic opportunities for young adult men are a prerequisite to acquiring sustainable wealth, and developing the capacity to build assets.  Therefore, the Fathers for the Future concentrates on education, economic development, and advocacy in local, regional, and national markets.
   
Mission


The mission of the Fathers For The Future is to educate young men and fathers in parenting, financial management, and life-skills; and provide opportunities for education and micro-enterprise.

Biography


J. Michael Carr Jr., president and founder of the Fathers for the Future is a social entreprenuer with an extensive background in management. His diverse management experience includes positions as controller for a food distribution and hospitality company, business manager of enrollment at DePaul University, grants administration manager and senior budget analyst at the Rotary International headquarters, and a field auditor for American National Bank (First Chicago) in Chicago, Illinois.

A native of Chicago, J. Michael grew up on the city’s South Side and attended Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois. He earned a
bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master's in business administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from Roosevelt University. As a cancer survivor who believes in the power of positive thinking, Mr. Carr has established Fathers for the Future, a foundation dedicated to assisting young males with overcoming the barriers to financial self-sufficiency. In 2007, Mr. Carr received the Donald Peterson Foundation Fatherhood Award. An accomplished musician, J. Michael possesses a thorough knowledge of the history of jazz and hip hop music. He, his wife, and their three children currently reside in Calumet City, Illinois.
